Building fuel-cell electric boat with on-board hydrogen production
With support of the ACT Government’s Renewable Energy Innovation Fund, HYREA is developing a first of its kind fuel cell hydrogen-electric boat with on-board hydrogen producing capability. We see this technology as critical to decarbonising the maritime industry and contributing to a greener, more sustainable future.
This week we have taken the delivery of 3.9-meter boat that will form the base of our demonstrator project. This represents a major step in delivering on our vision, and culminates months of design and engineering work. Other off-the shelf components of our boat are on the way – we expect the delivery of the hydrogen fuel cell, electric motor and a battery in the next several months.
We will soon move to the next step of the project - fitting out the boat with our hydrogen producing converter and all other components. In parallel, we are also continuing to refine our hydrogen pods - striving for greater efficiency and cost competitiveness. We are keen to complete this project as soon as possible and share our success with you.
